STONE PROTECTION: FROM PERFLUOROPOLYETHERS TO POLYFLUOROURETHANES

INTRODUZIONE
Over ten years since their first applications, and after some hundred on-field trials, neutral perfluoropolyethers confirm their excellent performance as stones protectives in the Cultural Heritage, as well as their full reversibility and total respectfulness towards compositional and aesthetic features of the artifacts.
Meanwhile also their limits have been shown: above all, their high chemical inertia precludes any riaggregating property and, mainly in medium/ high porosity substrates, it leads to a gradual penetration and to a drop of their protective performance in the long term.
